Galigrain to double investment in the outer port, A Coruña

Coruña, Spain (PortSEurope) January 5, 2021 – The President of the Port Authority of A Coruña, Martín Fernández Prado, held his first meeting today with the Mayor of Arteixo, Carlos Calvelo, with whom he has carried out a visit to the Outer Harbour, within the framework of the meetings that have been held since its inauguration with the representatives of the institutions with which the
Port Authority shares competences and objectives. Martín Fernández Prado indicated that both have reviewed some issues on the future challenges around the Outer Harbour. In this respect, he announced that this the same month, at the next Port Authority Board of Directors, a major new investment will be approved for Punta Langosteira, of €14 million. Galigrain is going to double its facilities, which “I think is a sign that they are happy with the functioning of the Outer Harbour and of its operation”, said Martín Fernández Prado, who acknowledged the made by this company, one of the large bulk operators in the Port of A Coruña has doubled its surface area with a new warehouse and equipment and a mechanized conveyor belt, which will allow you to improve your efficiency and productivity, and will be at the forefront of environmental programme. It is also clear that for this type of operator it is essential to have with the rail link, given the nature of its activity. With regard to the progress of the Outer Harbour, which is already close to 11 million tonnes of goods moved, Martín Fernández Prado said there are currently 7 companies, with a total of 12 concessions implemented in the new dock, with a private investment of more than €200 million. He said that the main objective is to continue growing, capturing investment and increasing traffic, so that Punta Langosteira will be a important in the economic revival of the entire metropolitan area in the post-pandemic context, helping to generate employment and improve the of the citizens. “We want to be useful to the companies in the powerful industrial area of Arteixo and support in every way possible,” said Fernandez Prado. He agrees with this objective with the Mayor, who thanked the President of the Authority for his visit Port and reiterated the pride of Arteixo as an eminently industrial town council, with a very relevant fabric, in which the Outer Harbour has a strong weight.
