Las Palmas, Spain (PortSEurope) December 1, 2020 – The 2020 Maritime Salvage Awards has awarded the second prize for the Best Contribution to SDG 14 (Sustainable Development Goal) of the UN to Autoridad Portuaria de Las Palmas (APP – Port Authority of Las Palmas). The president of the APP, Luis Ibarra, stated that this recognition is for the public workers of the Port Authority for
their planning and supervision, and for the companies that silently provide these services every day. He added that there is an important group of professionals who patrol the inland waters since before dawn to detect and collect oily stains and floating solids, analyze the waters in search of invasive organisms or classify and to remove and treat the different waste from ships. The jury of the 2020 Maritime Rescue Awards, in its category for the Best Contribution to the United Nations SDG 14, valued the commitment and effort reflected in the conservation and cleanliness of the seas, as well as in the minimization of the environmental impact of the organization. In addition, the jury took into account the internal dissemination of its commitment to the environment.
