Leixões and Setúbal set new TEU records in January-September 2020

Lisbon, Portugal (PortSEurope) November 19, 2020 – In January-September 2020, Setúbal and Leixões ports registered containerised cargo increases of +16.5% (186,600 tons) and +2.6% (133,500 tons), respectively, reported AMT – the Mobility and Transport Authority. The ports of Leixões and Setúbal set the highest TEU volume ever in the periods from January to September, with 528,535 and 123,538 TEU handled, respectively. Overall, the movement of
containers in the period from January to September 2020 slightly exceeded the volume of 2.05 million TEU, being -1.4% of the value recorded in the same period of 2019 and -10.4% of the maximum value recorded in 2017. “The behavior of the mainland port ecosystem in the container traffic segment, results from the confluence of positive performances of the ports of Sines, Setúbal and Leixões, with respective variations of +89,900 TEU (+8.3%), +17,000 TEU (+15.9%) and +6,200 TEU (+1.2%)” », added AMT.
