Maersk suspends of ship transits through the Red Sea

Copenhagen, Denmark (Ports Europe) January 2, 2024 – Maersk announced today the suspension of all ship transits through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

This follows an event last Sunday when Houthi militants attacked the Singapore-flagged Maersk Hangzhou. U.S. helicopters fought back the attack on the container ship.

Houthi rebels claim to attack vessels with links to Israel the actions highlight the risk of regional escalation of the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip.

Maersk will re-route ships around the Cape of Good Hope, Southern Africa.
