Port of Seville initiatives for European Next Generation funds

The president of the Port Authority of Seville (APS), Rafael Carmona, has received the Minister for the Presidency, Public Administration and the Interior, Elías Bendodo, on a visit to the port facilities the port facilities to learn about the initiatives of the Port presented to the European Next Generation funds – April 6, 2021 The port of Seville has proposed 3 strategic tractor projects strategic
projects which aim, on the one hand, to mitigate climate change and to promote the use of alternative energies; and on the other, to digital transformation. In total, these initiatives are intended to mobilise a public-private investment of 500 million euros. Elías Bendodo wanted to support the projects presented and highlighted the effort of the Andalusian Government for the approval of a new decree law which will speed up and promote theand boost the management of European funds. “We are simplifying regulations, streamlining procedures and optimising resources”. For his part, Rafael Carmona has reported on the initiatives that are eligible for Next Generation funds. One of these is the wind energy logistics hub, presented in collaboration with companies based in the Port of Seville.based in the Port of Seville. “With it, we want to promote renewable energies even further and to make our industrial area a reference point in this sector”, emphasised Rafael Carmona. The chairman also presented a second project covering the entire hydrogen value chain, from production to distribution and end use. The key to this project lies not only in the decarbonisation of the Port of Seville, but also in the collaboration with the city council to extend the use of hydrogen to the municipal fleet”, said Rafael Carmelo. The project proposes decarbonisation in urban mobility by promoting the use of hydrogen-powered vehicles, such as buses, ambulances, fire trucks, fire engines, among others. On the other hand, Rafael Carmona has highlighted “the commitment to the digitalisation of port operations and the port operations and intermodality”. One example is the Ferro Port System project, which automates rail traffic. In this line of technological transformation, the Port of Seville, together with the Ports of Valencia and Bilbao have proposed another initiative for the Next Generation Funds based on the digital transformation of the logistics-logistics digital transformation of the logistics-port cluster. The objective is the creation of state-of-the-art digital port ecosystems. “This is the path of the future we are committed to: renewable energies, decarbonisation, digitalisation and environmental conservation”, pointed out the APS president. Finally, the Minister of the Presidency has insisted that the Andalusian Government is going to promote a Plan for the Coordination of Ports and the Promotion of Exports, with the aim of joining forces and taking advantage of synergies for the development and international promotion of the ports and the business and productive ports and the Andalusian business and productive fabric.
