Chioggia, Italy (PortSEurope) December 8, 2018 – The President of the port of Chioggia, Damaso Zanardo, has presented details of redevelopment at the port.
Work will start on the reclamation of the Val da Rio landfill, which identifies docks A and B and behind port, D, E, F, G, as an area to redevelopment of approximately 60,000 m². This will allow the start of the completion of the south lot that will lead to the construction of an additional 1,500 metres of docks and make 200,000 m² of operational port areas.
Around €35 million ($39.84 million) is being invested in the project.
The landfill, built in the early 60s and abandoned in 1984. The landfill, already the subject of a first safety intervention in the 80s by the Venice Water Authority with site consolidation, will be treated with in situ waste treatment procedures obtaining the first raw material from the treatment cycle, material that will be reused in the area to realize the foundation of the port areas.
The works, contracted to a consortium headed by the company HERAmbiente of Bologna, will have a duration of 495 days, to be followed by a testing period.
