PSA International Visits Damietta Port To Discuss Cooperation

Damietta, Egypt (PortSEurope) March 17, 2019 – Damietta Port Authority (DPA) has reported talks with Singapore-based PSA International about cooperation on future container handling projects at the port.

The delegation expressed interest in “joint cooperation in container handling,” said a DPA statement.

Damietta Port is situated 8.5 km west of the Nile river of Damietta branch westward Ras El-Bar, and it is 70 km west of Port Said.

Previously, DPA announced a new container terminal project, with a stacking area of 700,000 m² and a 17m deep berthing area. It will seek a partner to build and operate the facility.

In January 2019, Egypt’s transport minister Hisham Arafat met representatives of German company Hapag-Lloyd AG, which generates about 50% of the container traffic at Damietta port.

Arafat presented various investment opportunities in the maritime transport sector to the management of the two companies, such as multi-purpose stations in the ports of the Red Sea, Alexandria and Damietta.

PSA is a leading global port group with flagship operations in Singapore and Antwerp. PSA’s portfolio comprises a network of over 50 coastal, rail and inland terminals in 17 countries, including PSA Sines (Portugal), Mersin International Port (Turkey), and PSA-Voltri Pra and southern European container hub (Genoa and Venice in Italy).
