Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain (PortSEurope) January 12, 2020 -Transcoma Shipping has acquired 20% of Gesport Terminal Marítima in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, reflecting its business plan to expand the range of related companies with which to increase synergies between the different companies in the group.
President and CEO of Transcoma Shipping, Alfonso Cordero, commented, “This alliance will allow us to be strengthened as Gesport brings us its valuable experience in the sector, human value and technical capabilities necessary to strengthen the leadership position of Hamilton y Cia in the Canary Islands, as it seeks to be a benchmark in the sector and provide growth and employment in the Canary Islands”.
Francisco Naranjo, administrator of the Gesport group said that it is the beginning of a joint expansion plan for both companies, in its commitment to growth in the port terminal sector, as well as a significant increase in the volume of turnover thanks to the support of a multinational group of recognized prestige like Transcoma Shipping”.
Gesport, via its multipurpose terminal, will provide logistical support to Hamilton y Cia, a Transcoma subsidiary, in the Canary Islands.
In 2019, Gestport moved more than 50,000 TEU, 10,000 rolling units and 250,000 tons of general merchandise in Las Palmas; and another 50,000 TEU in the Lanzarote Terminal.
