Sines, Portugal (PortSEurope) June 14, 2019 – Germany’s Continental AG plans to expand its industrial unit in Portugal’s Famalicão to produce tires for earthmoving vehicles and for port application, in an investment of around €100 million ($112.6 million) that will create more than 100 jobs.
“Through investments and the creation of more production capacity, we continue with the growth strategy in the tire division. Both the tires for port applications and earthmoving are in the key growth areas of the heavy special tires market. the production line clearly reflects our commitment to these segments and the entire off-road tyre business,” said Christian Kötz, executive director of the Continental group.
Since arriving in Portugal in 1990, with the purchase of Mabor from the Amorim group, Continental has already invested €820 million ($922.9 million) in Famalicão.
Continental AG is a German automotive manufacturing company specializing in, brake systems, interior electronics, automotive safety, powertrain and chassis components, tachographs, tires and other parts for the automotive and transportation industries.
